Creationist group says homosexual indoctrination in schools is because of Darwin

The religious right has labeled efforts to teach tolerance as “homosexual indoctrination.” TPMMuckracker neatly summarizes the religious right’s fury over the April 20Day of Silence protest against LGBT bullying in the public schools.  “To hear some on the political right talk about it, ‘homosexual indoctrination’ is already a problem in public schools — and it’s about to get [...]

Ken Ham was expelled! Ha haa!

Amazingly, a gang of ignorant young-earth creationist crazies who are running fundamentalist home-schooling conferences decided that Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis were just too crazy even for them, and they have formally banned AiG from appearing at any of their conferences. This wasn’t a dictate from irate scientists or atheists, either: this decree has [...]

Inroads for the Ken Ham Ark Park? – NCSE

The developers proposing to build a creationist theme park in northern Kentucky are now asking the state to improve a highway interchange to accommodate the park’s expected visitors, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal (December 23, 2010). A spokesperson for the state Transportation Cabinet commented, “At this point, no commitments have been made.” Although it is [...]

State never saw feasibility study for Noah’s Ark theme park – Kentucky.com

When Gov. Steve Beshear held a Capitol news conference to announce potential state tax incentives for an amusement park built around a life-size Noah’s Ark earlier this month, he cited a feasibility study that predicted the park would attract 1.6 million visitors in its first year. However, neither Beshear nor other state officials had seen [...]

Launching Balloons to Study Space Weather

In Antarctica in January, 2013 – the summer at the South Pole – scientists released 20 balloons, each eight stories tall, into the air to help answer an enduring space weather question: when the giant radiation belts surrounding Earth lose material, where do the extra particles actually go? This NASA-funded mission is called BARREL, for Balloon Array for Radiation belt Relativistic Electron Losses. Each balloon launched by the BARREL team floated for anywhere from three to 40 days, measuring X-rays produced by fast-moving electrons high up in the atmosphere.BARREL works hand in hand with another NASA mission called the Van Allen Probes, which travels directly through the Van Allen radiation belts. The belts wax and wane over time in response to incoming energy and material from the sun, sometimes intensifying the radiation through which satellites orbiting Earth must travel. Scientists need to understand this process better, and even provide forecasts of such space weather, in order to protect our spacecraft.› Read MoreImage Credit: NASA
