I’m completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. — George Carlin

Teen Atheist Goes on Rampage Against Religious Freedom | U.S. Constitutional Free Press

Keep it up Jessica!  You’re talking sense. I’ve got all kinds of respect for you. Jessica Ahlquist, the 16-year-old behind the prayer mural ban at Cranston High School West in Cranston, Rhode Island, just can’t seem to keep her name out of the news. Months after she won her ACLU-led battle, the teenager continues to [...]

Pagan mom outraged after school gives son Bible

Ginger Strivelli is a different kind of Bible-thumper: The self-proclaimed pagan would like to smack school officials for giving her son access to a copy of the good book. “It’s totally inappropriate they think they can get away with this,” an angry Strivelli told the Asheville Citizen-Times after her fifth-grade son came home with a [...]

Christian theocracy: How Newt Gingrich and the GOP would abolish courts and legislate morality. – Slate Magazine

Is the United States sliding toward theocracy? That’s what Republican presidential candidates have told us for more than a year. Radical Islam, they’ve argued, is on the verge of taking over our country through Sharia law. But this weekend, at an Iowa forum sparsely covered by the press, the candidates made clear that they don’t [...]

Clay County, Fla. — Clay Hill Elementary principal Larry Davis is drawing criticisms from across the country. It all started with a school memo. Davis informed his staff that a local pastor would be holding weekly prayer sessions underneath the school’s flag. In the memo to about 40 faculty members, Davis quoted an article from [...]

Pictures of Occupy Asheville

While I was visiting Asheville this weekend, I took a moment to take pictures of the Occupy Asheville protest against the banks on the same square. This was in the morning while they were preparing for their rally in the afternoon.  They were doing some instruction and training at this time. Here are the pictures. [...]

Public schools are criminal institutions that are ‘teaching the religion of Humanism’ and destroying Christianity in America

Public schools are criminal institutions that are stealing the hearts and minds of children, turning them from God and Jesus Christ, according to the trailer of the newly-released Christian documentary, IndoctriNation - PublicSchools and the Decline of Christianity in America. Back in August, 2010, Colin Gunn took his wife and children on a 3,000 bus tour to make his film.  When [...]

Conservatives Want America to be a ‘Christian Nation’ – Here’s What That Would Actually Look Like

Let’s compare Rick Perry’s version of “Christian values” to what the Bible really dictates. Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry, in an appeal to evangelical voters, said “Christian values” and not “a bunch of Washington politicians” should be the touchstone guiding how Americans conduct their lives. … “America is going to be guided by some set [...]

Launching Balloons to Study Space Weather

In Antarctica in January, 2013 – the summer at the South Pole – scientists released 20 balloons, each eight stories tall, into the air to help answer an enduring space weather question: when the giant radiation belts surrounding Earth lose material, where do the extra particles actually go? This NASA-funded mission is called BARREL, for Balloon Array for Radiation belt Relativistic Electron Losses. Each balloon launched by the BARREL team floated for anywhere from three to 40 days, measuring X-rays produced by fast-moving electrons high up in the atmosphere.BARREL works hand in hand with another NASA mission called the Van Allen Probes, which travels directly through the Van Allen radiation belts. The belts wax and wane over time in response to incoming energy and material from the sun, sometimes intensifying the radiation through which satellites orbiting Earth must travel. Scientists need to understand this process better, and even provide forecasts of such space weather, in order to protect our spacecraft.› Read MoreImage Credit: NASA
