Rhode Island City Enraged Over School Prayer Lawsuit – NYTimes.com

CFI sent this to me, I kinda chuckle at them, they sure look for opportunities to grab some face time. When I asked them for help with establishing a cable TV spot in town, they just looked at me funny. But here they are promoting Jessica Alquist like she’s their poster child. I get it, [...]

Pagan mom outraged after school gives son Bible

Ginger Strivelli is a different kind of Bible-thumper: The self-proclaimed pagan would like to smack school officials for giving her son access to a copy of the good book. “It’s totally inappropriate they think they can get away with this,” an angry Strivelli told the Asheville Citizen-Times after her fifth-grade son came home with a [...]

Florida elementary school principal memo: ‘The First Amendment was for Christianity, not other religions.’

Clay County, Fla. — Clay Hill Elementary principal Larry Davis is drawing criticisms from across the country. It all started with a school memo. Davis informed his staff that a local pastor would be holding weekly prayer sessions underneath the school’s flag. In the memo to about 40 faculty members, Davis quoted an article from [...]

Public schools are criminal institutions that are ‘teaching the religion of Humanism’ and destroying Christianity in America

Public schools are criminal institutions that are stealing the hearts and minds of children, turning them from God and Jesus Christ, according to the trailer of the newly-released Christian documentary, IndoctriNation - PublicSchools and the Decline of Christianity in America. Back in August, 2010, Colin Gunn took his wife and children on a 3,000 bus tour to make his film.  When [...]

This chart depicts the public acceptance of evolution theory in 34 countries in 2005. Adults were asked to respond to the statement: “Human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals.” The percentage of respondents who believed this to be true is marked in blue; those who believed it to be false, [...]

The next day, someone used the phrase again when a student sneezed, and Will C. Wood High School student [...]

Christian Rapper Preaches at a Public Middle School in South Carolina

Recently, a South Carolina middle school held a worship rally that sought to convert students to Christianity. The worship rally took place during an in-school assembly and featured a Christian rapper, a sermon delivered by a local minister, and volunteers who prayed with students, urging the students to accept Jesus Christ. The school district may [...]

‘No Dinosaurs in Heaven’ movie screens at NY Academy of Sciences

Summer is over and school is back in session, but not all American students are getting a science education based on actual science. In a recent national poll, only 23% of biology teachers strongly agreed that evolution is the unifying theory of biology – and it’s no surprise that US students rank low among industrialized [...]

Sir David Attenborough joins campaign against creationism in schools

Sir David Attenborough has weighed into a campaign calling for creationism to be banned from the school science curriculum and for evolution to be taught more widely in schools. The naturalist joined three Nobel laureates, the atheist Richard Dawkins and other leading scientists in calling on the government to tackle the “threat” of creationism. Gordon [...]

Atheists meet in secret at Brigham Young University

Once a month, at an undisclosed location in Utah County, a group of students predominantly from BYU gather to talk about agnosticism, secular humanism and other religious ideologies not accepted by the mainstream group on campus. It operates anonymously—known to its members simply as The Group—because a “disaffiliation” from The Church of Jesus Christ of [...]

    Pavlof Volcano From Station

Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) photographed this striking view of Pavlof Volcano on May 18, 2013. The oblique perspective from the ISS reveals the three dimensional structure of the ash plume, which is often obscured by the top-down view of most remote sensing satellites. Situated in the Aleutian Arc about 625 miles (1,000 kilometers) southwest of Anchorage, Pavlof began erupting on May 13, 2013. The volcano jetted lava into the air and spewed an ash cloud 20,000 feet (6,000 meters) high. When photograph ISS036-E-2105 (top) was taken, the space station was about 475 miles south-southeast of the volcano (49.1° North latitude, 157.4° West longitude). The volcanic plume extended southeastward over the North Pacific Ocean. › Additional information/larger images. Image Credit: NASA
