Why does the Religiosity of candidates matter ?

This is Sean Faircloths putting to words so eloquently my feelings on why the religiosity of the candidates is so important to secularists today Please share this video

A very odd scene from a Macedonia Carnival. Participants are mocking Islam and the blind worship of Allah (aka Muhammad).

Kind of off-the-wall and a bit disturbing, but… http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=bb2_1328400517

Indiana Senate backs teaching creationism proposal

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s public schools would be allowed to teach creationism in science classes as long as they include origin of life theories from multiple religions under a proposal approved Tuesday by the state Senate. The Senate passed the bill on a 28-22 vote even though some senators raised questions about the measure’s constitutionality. It now [...]

Pastor calls for nationwide Starbucks boycott over gay marriage

SEATTLE – A Christian pastor is calling for a nationwide boycott of Starbucks for the company’s support of same-sex marriage in Washington. In a message published online a day before Washington’s Senate passed a bill to legalize same-sex marriage, Pastor Steven Andrew of USA Christian Ministries predicted that the Seattle-based coffee giant could lose 80 percent [...]

Brandon Wegner Threatens School With Legal Action For Removing OpEd Mentioning Gays Be ‘Put To Death’

Earlier this month, Wisconsin high school sophomore Brandon Wegner, 15, published an editorial article in his Shawano Community High School student paper arguing gay couples should not be allowed to adopt. The school subsequently removed the article from remaining copies of the publication, allegedly claiming it was a violation of the school’s bullying policy, WSAW TV [...]

Iran Targets Barbie, Shutters Toy Stores For Selling The Dolls

When American businesswoman Ruth Handler first launched Barbie back in 1959, she probably didn’t expect the dolls to become as controversial as they are popular. In an apparent effort to shut out Western culture,Iranian authorities have closed toy stores in Tehran for selling Barbie dolls, according to Associated Press. The dolls first attracted criticism from Iran’s strict [...]

Secular victory: Religious groups must offer birth control

In a victory for secular America, and American women, the Obama administration has ruled that religious institutions must follow a new federal mandate and offer employees free birth control through their health insurance coverage. On Friday, the Obama administration reaffirmed their commitment to new regulations mandating all health plans offer free contraception. In so doing, the Obama [...]

North Carolina Pagan Receives Death Threat After Challenging Bible Distribution

Last month, North Carolina Pagan Ginger Strivelli decided to challenge her child’s school’s policy regarding the distribution of religious materials. Strivelli felt that the manner in which Gideon Bibles were made available violated the Establishment Clause, and ostracized non-Christian students who didn’t want to use a special break to obtain a Bible. The school, when challenged, [...]

    Remnant of a Supernova

Vital clues about the devastating ends to the lives of massive stars can be found by studying the aftermath of their explosions. In its more than twelve years of science operations, NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory has studied many of these supernova remnants sprinkled across the galaxy. The latest example of this important investigation is Chandra's new image of the supernova remnant known as G350.1-0.3. This stellar debris field is located some 14,700 light years from the Earth toward the center of the Milky Way. Evidence from Chandra and from ESA's XMM-Newton telescope suggest that a compact object within G350.1+0.3 may be the dense core of the star that exploded. The position of this likely neutron star, seen by the arrow pointing to "neutron star" in the inset image, is well away from the center of the X-ray emission. If the supernova explosion occurred near the center of the X-ray emission then the neutron star must have received a powerful kick in the supernova explosion. Data suggest this supernova remnant, as it appears in the image, is 600 and 1,200 years old. If the estimated location of the explosion is correct, this means the neutron star has been moving at a speed of at least 3 million miles per hour since the explosion. Another intriguing aspect of G350.1-0.3 is its unusual shape. Many supernova remnants are nearly circular, but G350.1-0.3 is strikingly asymmetrical as seen in the Chandra data in this image (gold). Infrared data from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope (light blue) also trace the morphology found by Chandra. Astronomers think that this bizarre shape is due to stellar debris field expanding into a nearby cloud of cold molecular gas. The age of 600-1,200 years puts the explosion that created G350.1-0.3 in the same time frame as other famous supernovas that formed the Crab and SN 1006 supernova remnants. However, it is unlikely that anyone on Earth would have seen the explosion because of the obscuring gas and dust that lies along our line of sight to the remnant. These results appeared in the April 10, 2011 issue of The Astrophysical Journal. Image Credits: X-ray: NASA/CXC/SAO/I. Lovchinsky et al; IR: NASA/JPL-Caltech
