IQ2 Debate: Atheists Are Wrong

Bill O’Reilly and Richard Dawkins Heatedly Debate Creationism

Bill O’Reilly debated creationism on Wednesday’s “O’Reilly Factor” with biologist and famous atheist Richard Dawkins. Not surprisingly, things got a little heated. Dawkins was pushing a new book, aimed to teach adolescents and adults that science can explain ancient myths. O’Reilly told Dawkins that his book “mocks God,” which propelled the two into a heated discussion [...]

Thank you Steve Jobs

Drawing from some of the most pivotal points in his life, Steve Jobs, chief executive officer and co-founder of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, urged graduates to pursue their dreams and see the opportunities in life’s setbacks — including death itself. Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The [...]

In God We Teach

Are teachers allowed to express their personal opinions in the classroom? Are teachers allowed “academic freedom”? And can competing theories be taught alongside evolution in a public classroom? These and other questions are the focus of the feature- length documentary, “In God We Teach,” which follows the “separation of church and state” controversy played [...]

ABC’s ‘Celebrity Wife Swap’ has reportedly lined up two participants: Gary Busey and former New Life Church pastor Ted Haggard (who is completely heterosexual, btw). Yep, you read those names right. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Haggard and Busey will swap partners … without the sex of course. The Gazette reports the show will shoot [...]

North Carolina Puts Gay Marriage Ban On May 2012 Ballot

WASHINGTON – North Carolina voters will vote whether to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage in May 2012, after the state Senate approved legislation placing the measure on the ballot on Tuesday. The amendment would bar legal recognition of any union besides marriage between one man and one woman, including civil unions and [...]

Irreligious Logic vs. Religious Logic

I’m so sick and tired of arguing with religious fanatics across the Internet. Why do they resort to such deluded thinking? Here is a pre-written example of how debates usually start and end whenever I start one with a believer: Skeptic: Cancers and other diseases are terrible. Why do they even exist? Believer: It’s because [...]

    Opportunity's Selfie

NASA's Mars Rover Opportunity catches its own late-afternoon shadow in this dramatically lit view eastward across Endeavour Crater on Mars. The rover used the panoramic camera (Pancam) between about 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. local Mars time to record images taken through different filters and combined into this mosaic view. Most of the component images were recorded during the 2,888th Martian day, or sol, of Opportunity's work on Mars (March 9, 2012). At that time, Opportunity was spending low-solar-energy weeks of the Martian winter at the Greeley Haven outcrop on the Cape York segment of Endeavour's western rim. In order to give the mosaic a rectangular aspect, some small parts of the edges of the mosaic and sky were filled in with parts of an image acquired earlier as part of a 360-degree panorama from the same location. Opportunity has been studying the western rim of Endeavour Crater since arriving there in August 2011. This crater spans 14 miles (22 kilometers) in diameter, or about the same area as the city of Seattle. This is more than 20 times wider than Victoria Crater, the largest impact crater that Opportunity had previously examined. The interior basin of Endeavour is in the upper half of this view. The mosaic combines about a dozen images taken through Pancam filters centered on wavelengths of 753 nanometers (near infrared), 535 nanometers (green) and 432 nanometers (violet). The view is presented in false color to make some differences between materials easier to see, such as the dark sandy ripples and dunes on the crater's distant floor.
