Louisville woman fearing Rapture was shot and killed by officer

A Louisville woman who was trying to get home before what she thought was the impending rapture was shot and killed by police on Saturday.

Armetta Foster was with her children, when she allegedly tried to stab an officer, stole a police car and was shot and killed.

Foster’s family says the woman needed help.

“She loved to live. She loved to smile. She loved to sing,” said Rolynne Williamson, one of Foster’s lifelong friends.

Friends and family members of Foster are now looking for answers, after Foster was shot and killed by police near Chattanooga, Tenn.

Foster’s sister, who does not want to be named for personal reasons, believes the incident happened after her sister had a mental breakdown.

“Saturday morning at 7:48, I got a phone call,” said Foster’s older sister. “She said if you never do anything, come help me. I need your help right away. “

Foster left an abusive relationship in Louisville back in 2007, in which the father of her children allegedly assaulted her and threatened to kill her.

Foster later moved to Florida.  “State of Kentucky thought it would be best to leave in her situation, and she wanted to protect her kids no matter what,” said her sister.

However, in recent days, Foster said she wanted to come home.

“She told me for sure she was coming. She was bringing the kids and this was where she was gonna live,” said Teandrea Mansfield, another longtime friend.

Foster never made home.

In Bradley Co., near Chattanooga, the car Foster was driving broke down.

Foster, her son and her daughter were walking by the side of the road, when a sheriff deputy pulled over to assist the family.

Foster’s sister talked to her on the cell phone, as an officer was arriving.

“He should have known something wasn’t right with her. And the way she was talking to him at that time. You could tell she was discombobulated,” said Foster’s sister.

The officer says Foster pulled a knife on him, then began to drive off in the officer’s cruiser.

He fired his service weapon, killing Foster.

The case is still under investigation, but family and friends do not believe it was handled correctly.

“I want that officer to actually tell us what happened in his words and why he felt he couldn’t do anything different,” said Foster’s sister.

The family is still waiting for the medical examiner to release Foster’s body so that they can plan her funeral arrangements.

Foster’s two children are 6-years-old and 10-years-old.

    A Supernova Cocoon Breakthrough

Observations with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have provided the first X-ray evidence of a supernova shock wave breaking through a cocoon of gas surrounding the star that exploded. This discovery may help astronomers understand why some supernovas are much more powerful than others. On Nov. 3, 2010, a supernova was discovered in the galaxy UGC 5189A, located about 160 million light years away. Using data from the All Sky Automated Survey telescope in Hawaii taken earlier, astronomers determined this supernova exploded in early October 2010 (in Earth's time-frame). This composite image of UGC 5189A shows X-ray data from Chandra in purple and optical data from Hubble Space Telescope in red, green and blue. SN 2010jl is the very bright X-ray source near the top of the galaxy. A team of researchers used Chandra to observe this supernova in December 2010 and again in October 2011. The supernova was one of the most luminous that has ever been detected in X-rays. The results of these observations were published in a paper that appeared in the May 1, 2012 issue of The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
