I’m sickened by all religions. Religion has divided people. I don’t think there’s any difference between the pope wearing a large hat and parading around with a smoking purse and an African painting his face white and praying to a rock. — Howard Stern

Apocalypse fears increase; causes surge in doomsday bunker sales

For those waiting on the imminent worldwide apocalypse, fear not.  For a cool $200,000 to $20 million dollars, you could have an underground bunker capable of holding 950 people, with multilevel floors, a clinic, and a holding cell for those who turn violent.   CNNMoney.com reports:

Northwest Shelter Systems, which offers shelters ranging in price from $200,000 to $20 million, has seen sales surge 70% since the uprisings in the Middle East, with the Japanese earthquake only spurring further interest. In hard numbers, that’s 12 shelters already booked when the company normally sells four shelters per year.

“Sales have gone through the roof, to the point where we are having trouble keeping up,” said Northwest Shelter Systems owner Kevin Thompson.

Capitalism is alive and well in bunker sales.  Undergroundbombshelter.com gives an ominous warning, that no doubt is spiking their sales:

Harvard studies, many politicians, and Homeland Security analysts have admitted that it’s not if a nuclear attack on America will happen.  Rather, it’s when a nuclear bomb will hit the country.  Some respected experts have even placed a timeline on the imminent event, saying a terrorist’s nuclear bomb could be delivered within the next few years.

Their site is replete with information about exactly what a nuclear bomb will do, what the damage will be, and uses NYC as a case study.  Of course, they do not present the problem without also selling the solution–they’ve had a 400% increase in inquiries since the Japansese earthquake, and have seen sales of their nuclear biological chemical shelter tents (9500.00), sell at an all time high.

Getting ready for 2012

CNNMoney.com continues:

Hardened Structures said inquiries have shot up about 20% since the earthquake — particularly for its apocalyptic 2012 shelters, radiation-protection tents, and nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) air filters.

VIPs need have no fear–the same company also sells Blast and Ballistic VIP houses that withstand blasts from even an AK-47, without losing the rich, opulent look VIPs have come to expect.

The site also gives you advice on how to stock up in the event of a nuclear apocalypse, how to minimize your exposure to radiation,  and gives terrorists several ideas of where to plant their next bomb under the caption “Where are America’s Likely Nuclear Bomb Targets?”

Never fear. The site assures you can survive a nuclear blast if you buy one of their many fine bunker and radiation shelter products.  Don’t forget the duct tape and the fresh water, and you might as well build an ark while you’re at it. Perhaps America’s schools should take a lesson from the 1950′s and encourage small children to hide under their desks in the event of a nuclear blast.   The book of Revelation and Daniel say its coming–or at least, it’s been coming for 2000 years.  And if it doesn’t come, you can have cool reinactments of episodes of “Lost” and rich teenagers can have covert underground parties–underground in Ma and Dad’s bunker.

    A Supernova Cocoon Breakthrough

Observations with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have provided the first X-ray evidence of a supernova shock wave breaking through a cocoon of gas surrounding the star that exploded. This discovery may help astronomers understand why some supernovas are much more powerful than others. On Nov. 3, 2010, a supernova was discovered in the galaxy UGC 5189A, located about 160 million light years away. Using data from the All Sky Automated Survey telescope in Hawaii taken earlier, astronomers determined this supernova exploded in early October 2010 (in Earth's time-frame). This composite image of UGC 5189A shows X-ray data from Chandra in purple and optical data from Hubble Space Telescope in red, green and blue. SN 2010jl is the very bright X-ray source near the top of the galaxy. A team of researchers used Chandra to observe this supernova in December 2010 and again in October 2011. The supernova was one of the most luminous that has ever been detected in X-rays. The results of these observations were published in a paper that appeared in the May 1, 2012 issue of The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
