Alabama Governor Declares Day of Prayer Over All State’s Students
Tomorrow, Alabama students, teachers and administrators associated with all schools across the state will be officially prayed over, thanks to a proclamation by Governor Robert Bentley.
When he took office, Bentley riled separation of church and state watchdogs by saying on Martin Luther King Day that “… anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I’m telling you, you’re not my brother and you’re not my sister.” He later apologized for his remarks.
First Priority of Greater Birmingham describes on its website some of the activities planned for the Day of Prayer Over Students Across Alabama, which include:
- “Prayer Walks” around local schools, provided the school principal gives permission;
- 24-hour prayer vigils at churches;
- Turning school zones into “prayer zones” by praying when passing a school.
Prayer Partners are encouraged to contact the principals of their local schools to let them know that their churches are praying for their schools. They are also encouraged to ask for a list of faculty members so that churches can pray for them name by name.
